    DEPENDENCIA Dependence

Flamenco | Premiere |  Online event

    Dias De Flamenco Festival
    18.3.21

In his book  ‘Escape from Freedom’ , psychoanalyst  Erich Fromm   argues that man in modern capitalist society has reached an ideal state of freedom, responsible for his own free will like never before. Nevertheless, or precisely due to this fact, he prefers rather to avoid exercising his liberty. One of the possible outcome of this situation is man’s complete cancellation of his individuality, adapting himself to fit into the molds and expectations of society. His sensations and aspirations counteract his ability to  please others around him by becoming a pawn of society he refrains from meeting his true self and real desires.

DEPENDENCIA (Dependence) is a contemporary flamenco piece by Mijal Ben Zvi that offers a personal perspective on the human need of belonging, exploring the dependence of an individual on his surroundings, through the connection between traditional flamenco and elements from other artistic practices. The unique poetics and rhythmics of flamenco are at the core of the piece, the cornerstones from which an interdisciplinary theatrical stage emerges, inspired by dramatic storytelling imagery and scenes.
